Hi Shalini,
I wanted to share with you what my kids have learnt at your school:
My 2 kids Ronak and Khushi study at your school in Garde 3 and 4 .They have mobilised a group of children in my residential comple to collect funds and old stuff for sharing at an orphanage on Sohna road on chritsmas.
They also made and sold tickets for a small event they did at the neighborhood park.
They spend ther evenings for almost 2 weeks now going from house to house and selling these INR 50/ tickets per household.
They demonstrated initiative, did marketing, cold-calling, event co-orinbation, accounts management, record keeping and participation. They also encouraged other younger kids to participate.
I could not have expected anything more from a school!!
Thanks for all your efforts in shaping my children and making them good individuals.
Regards
Meenu

Dear Shalini,
This is to inform you that I have been repatriated back to Sri Lanka effective 1st Jan 2012. My two kids Yevin (Grade 5) and Sarita (Grade 3) will leave India with me on 26th Dec 2011. This makes their last day of school 23rd Dec 2011.
I would like to thank you and your team whole heartedly for taking care of my two kids during the past 3 years. I must say that they enjoyed coming to school every morning, which is a dream come true for any expatriate...especially a mom!
The individualized attention combined with the nurturing environment built on a strong value system and the inspiration to excel would no doubt have given them a strong foundation for life.
Greatly appreciate if you could advise me on the formalities that needs be completed. Also appreciate if I can have the report cards and the school leaving certificates for both kids.
Thanks once more and best regards
Radhini

Dear Ms Shalini Nambiar,
Good morning, wish you and all the staff of Excelsior School "HAPPY DIWALI".
Very good initiative on the part of School to organize Jaipur trip for children. Such outings immediately after half yearly exams not only relieves the examination stress on the students but also bring a sense of independentness in the children and helps them in building self confidence while away from home. On such outings children do small shoppings of gifts for themselves and for their family members which help them learning making effective negotiation while shopping. I came to know from Ayesha that all the children enjoyed a lot and gained knowledge about some of the historical places they have visited while at Jaipur.
In future, please keep on organizing such outstation trips.
Thanks and best regards!

Dear Shalini,
Just wanted to share with u a poem composed by Oshwin.Even though they are just a few lines but it makes me extremely proud that my little one is able to express his thoughts so beautifully.Want to take the opportunity to thank the school for giving him the right stimuli to shape up his personality.
Thank you so much Ms Shalini and Ms Geetika(wildlife),Ms Vaishali for all your efforts.
The poem is as follows:
You should share and care
You should share and care all along
If you do not share and care
If you do not share and care, god is looking upon
And he will not then share and care for you!!!
Thanks and best regards!

Dear Shalini,
We wanted to let you know that we really appreciated the end-of-year performances of the classes of our three children (Culture I, First Grade and Second Grade). We would like to make great compliments to all the teachers who have put so much effort and patience in guiding the children in their practices and rehearsals. Our children have enjoyed these rehearsals as much as the performance itself.
One suggestion perhaps would be about some of the songs. We felt the melodies and lyrics of the songs by Pink Floyd and Enrique Iglesias were out of the children's range. We feel some of the other songs the children sing at school are outstanding, especially the Julie Andrews songs from the "Sound of Music" which they also bring home.
We were touched by your remarks about not wanting to create "perfect" performances and "perfect" children but that the most important thing was the confidence with which the children spoke, danced and sang in front of the audience. We think you were so right to highlight this.
The scale of the performance was intimate and personal. Some parents - we noticed - had preferred a big stage. Perhaps this would have made them more proud. But the question in these cases, we think, is always: what is the purpose of this. Is it to teach children to perform, to be in the limelight? Or is it to guide them into developing self-confidence and joy and passion in putting great effort into something? This is perhaps a constantly returning topic in every educational setting around the world, so masterfully portrayed in the movie "3 Idiots".
From your remarks, we sensed that you are also wrestling with this issue. Some parents in schools - especially in India it seems - are single-mindedly focused on grades, test results, rankings, accolades, medals, diploma's and other external vindications of the child's development. Other parents place more emphasis on motivation, the ability to overcome obstacles, self-confidence, the ability to postpone gratification, the love of challenge, the ability to develop a passion for something, etc.
I recently read some of the work of Carol Dweck, an American psychologist at Stanford. Her 30-year work is about the importance for children of "learning to learn" and how this is facilitated (and hampered) by the learning environment. Here are some interviews with her that you may find very interesting too.
